And more nursery favourites
Some of these have disappeared from my original site on ‘Singing games for children’ and need to be replaced.
Why are nursery rhymes so important for the growing child?
Nursery rhymes have so much to offer in promoting language skills and social interactions for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
Repetition, patterns, rhyming, memorizing, concentration all help the developing brain
But most of all they are fun; little story-telling jewels to develop the mind and imagination!
Singing or chanting a nursery rhyme is also a great way to distract a child and lift their spirits when they are feeling grumpy.
****Recent research, a study that forms part of the BabyRhythm project led by Prof Usha Goswami suggests Singsong speech is critical for babies learning language “Parents should talk and sing to their babies as much as possible or use infant directed speech like nursery rhymes because it will make a difference to language outcome”
Nursery rhymes may well be from another century but they have stood the test of time and their worth is valued by any parent, teacher and others who interact with the young child.
They can also be a foundation for learning to read.
“As child I loved nursery rhymes and still remember ‘The house that Jack built’. At the age of four I was given ‘The Ladybird book of Nursery rhymes’, many were nursery rhymes I knew well already and was soon able to make a link between the sounds of the words and the printed word on the page.
It wasn’t long before I became an avid reader!”

At present this is just a taster page but with full links to nursery rhymes on my original Singing games for children site.
