Thanksgiving
There is always a good excuse to say thank you but in the United States and Canada it is a national holiday celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November, a day to give thanks for the blessings of the past year. It’s also a time when families and friends get together for a traditional meal, often roast turkey, and to reflect on things they are thankful for. Though its origins are linked to a 1621 harvest feast shared by Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag people, it is now widely celebrated as a secular holiday.
Discover a treasure trove of songs to celebrate this wonderful festival at: Songs for Christmas and Thanksgiving | River of song
Native American Heritage Month
November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor and celebrate the culture, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. It provides a platform for sharing and appreciating the rich histories of the continent’s original inhabitants.
In my collection ‘Songs from Many Lands,’ the North American section offers a charming mix of poems, call-and-response songs, rounds, prayers, hand plays, and lullabies to enjoy and sing, making it a delightful addition to this celebration.
November 11th Martinmas
The feast day of Saint Martin of Tours is celebrated every year on this date and has historically marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It’s the perfect time to make a lantern of your own, wrap up warmly and then venture out into the night for a cheerful walk.
August 17th World Honey Bee Day
Summer is here and the bees are out and about. Songs and poems about these wonderful creatures swarm together here:
It’s a minibeast and bug world | River of song – honey for the soul, humming away in unison.
